Good evening. My name is Steve Sanson. I'm president of a group called Veterans in Politics. we're a military watchdog group, and we endorse candidates for different elected seats. I've spent 12 years in the military, and I'm a Gulf War veteran. And I can give you a little scenario.

In the Gulf War, they gave us blister and nerve agent shots and pills. But the funny thing about that, it never made our servicemen's medical record books. I've been involved in politics in Nevada for probably around nine years. And one thing I've learned is don't trust the government. It's sad but it's true. If you think about Agent Orange, the government never admitted to Agent Orange until thousands of veterans died from it. The government never admitted to Gulf War Syndrome until thousands of veterans died from it. Why should we believe them now? Ask yourself that question. These DOEs, they're being paid. They're on the government's payroll. But there's a lot of us citizens living here today that are not. How can government protect us? Terrorism is at an alarming high rate. These terrorists out there are smarter, more advanced, and hungrier to kill Americans. They're not going to stop at anything. Government never protected us when the American Embassy got blown up in Lebanon. Government never protected us when the American Embassy got blown up in Africa. We have home-grown terrorism as well. Look at the Oklahoma City bombing.

Now, we can sit here and we can talk about how we're going to transport nuclear waste through the I-15, I-95, and the railways, but terrorism is going to be keeping track of that,as well. You bet they are. And if you sit here and think that they're not, they are. Who are going to drive those trucks? Is the DOE going to make sure that these individuals are not going to be bought off by somebody? Is the DOE going to make sure that these individuals that are driving these trucks are not working for some terrorist organization? You think they're going to put that much money into the background check of who's driving those vehicles? It's really upsetting that a government official could come here and talk about transporting wastes across our city, highways, city streets, our rails, and our freeways. As an American citizen, I'm outraged by this. And it's not just Nevada. It's a lot of other states as well. You know, they say this thing is safe. Safe? Nothing in life is safe, my friends. Nothing in life is ever proof. There's always a flaw in everything. You think something is 110 percent safe?

You think any one of these individuals that work in the DOE could put their hands on a stack of Bibles and say there's nothing going to happen in the next, five, 10, 15, 20 years? I don't think so. I don't think so at all. Now, we can all remember Three Mile Island. Can we remember that? They said that was safe, too. It's just discouraging that we all have to take time of our busy day and sit here for hours on end to talk about something that's really common sense. And the common sense factor is let the nuclear waste should stay where it is, let each state and the federal government deal with it as it lay. Is that hard? Radiation causes cancer. My whole thing is the money that they're spending on transporting this nuclear waste, put it in cancer research. Start finding out what causes cancer. Find a cure for that. That is my thing.

I'd like to thank you for your time and thank you for being here.
