On "Face the Tribune" my guest were Joshua Sanson, John and Oscar Aquino their ages are 18 through 23 years old.
John Aquino stated that the right friends is the key to success, he gave examples about some of his friends being involved on the wrong side of the law that led to incarceration for position of cocaine, he had one friend that had two young females pregnant, that caused him to drop out of school to support his two children. Aquino also emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in their children's life.
Oscar Aquino stated that he basically threw his high school education away. Aquino stated that his friend's parents were not involved in their children's life and at the age of 14 years old they were roaming the streets at midnight on a school night. Aquino stated that his friend dropped out of school or ended up behind bars. Aquino stated that his brother John Aquino pulled him away from his friends that were leading him nowhere. Aquino realized the important of education and he gained the strength to move forward and now obtained his GED.
Joshua Sanson stated that he was not doing so well in school in his younger years, but his father had him focused on education that lead him to receive honors and eventually graduated from high school. Sanson stated that he was inspired by his father and that led him to pursue college and his dream is to become an attorney.
It's amazing to hear these youngsters mindset. They have a great deal of respect for education; they realized that education is the path to success.
We changed focused and I started to discuss the current war in Iraq with John Aquino, Aquino stated that a lot of his friends do not believe in the war. Aquino stated that his friends do not have a personal connection with this war so their true patriotism for this country is lacking.
Illegal immigration were discussed with Oscar Aquino and Aquino stated that he understands why the majority of illegal's enter into this country, he believes it's to make a better way of life for themselves, but he does not agree with Amnesty. Aquino stated that because of America's strong economy peaks the interest of illegal immigrants flocking to this country. In addition, Aquino believes that our government has not done enough to control the flow of illegal immigration. Aquino's family found a better way of life in America when they fled their home land of Guatemala.
We switch gears and started to discuss our Commander and Chief and the topic was given to Joshua Sanson, Sanson believes that the President of the United States job approval rate is falling with the American People. Sanson believes that President Bush is out of touch with the American People and needs to increase communication and awareness.
In closing, John Aquino's message to our youths is to "be responsible for all your actions and you will have hard times but keep pressing on". Oscar Aquino stated that our youths need to "stay in school no matter how old you get, because you can never stop learning". Joshua Sanson stated that our youths need to "keep following their dreams no matter what".
I was taken by surprise with the response, knowledge, and experience of these youths. Some children do not get it; they still live in a self absorbed dream world, but when I had these three guest on my show it gave me a new prospective on our youths of today, that they do realize what is going on and they have strong opinions regarding different issues.
Keep your children involved, listen to their opinions, and ask the tough questions, because one day they will be the ones that are in charge of our country and our way of life.
