Gillespie! Veterans In Politics International believe that Clark County Metropolitan Police Officer’s have a lack of training and no training in recognizing PTSD! Some citizens call for the resignation of Sheriff Doug Gillespie saying there are too many officer involved shootings and this is the second military veteran to die at the hands of the Metropolitan Police Department. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officers are not trained to recognize Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Is it the policy of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to follow the lead once one officer fires a weapon? There appears to be a consistent pattern in a lack of organization and leadership when the police are faced with difficult situations. There appears to be little to no problem solving or solution focused choices as well as a lack of any clear plan or training in place. The police officers are not the ones that should be blamed, it is the larger system at fault. Although there are a few officers that are not appropriate to be officers it is the responsibility of the leaders in the department to identify and prepare them for difficult situations they may face on the job. In addition the department should not protect the mistakes made by any officer and be able to hold them responsible for any mishap that has occurred instead of being concerned about ‘bad’ publicity. Ultimately dishonesty and poor leadership will reveal itself. Officially, Gulf War Veteran Stanley Gibson died at the hands of Metro police officers. However the cause of Stanley Gibson's death is actually more tragic, more damning, and more shameful. The bitter truth, the dreadful irony, is that Stanley Gibson survived fighting a war abroad only to be killed at home by the callous indifference and bureaucratic ineptitude of the very institutions that purport to help veterans and to protect citizens. On the day he was killed, Stanley Gibson had been without medication to treat his PTSD because the Veterans Administration cancelled his doctor's appointment and failed to re-fill his prescription. Before that, Metro found him disoriented and arrested him, promising his wife he would be subject to a 72-hour hold to evaluate his mental condition before being released. Yet he was released without any examination or hold. A short time later, he became disoriented trying to get home and found himself in the wrong apartment complex, where Metro was summoned. This tragic event could have been easily prevented if the department followed through. After arriving, Metro officers found him alone and bewildered, unarmed sitting in his car. They blocked his car with their cruisers, surrounded him, and shot him to death. And like any institution unburdened by accountability, Metro confidently stated that the officers' actions were justified, indicating that Gibson had rammed a police cruiser and officers fired in self-defense. When video of the incident was released showing this never happened, Metro retracted, slightly, by indicating the investigation was ongoing. The hope of course is that the killing of Gulf War Veteran Stanley Gibson will have some meaning and that the community's collective cries of outrage will finally spark meaningful change in two regards: First, a long-overdue federal investigation of Metro's use of force policies. And second, that a brief hush will fall over the ineffectual bickering and pandering in Washington long enough for our elected officials to hear the silent suffering of our best and brightest, our veterans. If this happens, if Stanley Gibson's passing can make our community and our country more fair, more humane, more noble -- in short, more American -- then Stanley Gibson's death will be patriotic, as his life was. |

Las Vegas City, Nevada Mayoral Race; Victor Chaltiel Veterans In Politics International denounces the actions of Las Vegas Mayoral candidate Victor Chaltiel LAS VEGAS, NEVADA MARCH 28, 2011. Veterans In Politics International is very pleased with the abundance of qualified candidates in the Las Vegas Mayoral race. Consequently, Veterans In Politics International has chosen not to endorse any particular candidate in 2011. However, Veterans In Politics specifically denounces Victor Chaltiel for his lack of honesty and integrity. Falsely Claiming Endorsements Victor Chaltiel disseminated a Face Book advertisement claiming that he is endorsed by the National Rifle Association (NRA). Veterans In Politics International confirmed with the NRA that Victor Chaltiel claim is completely untrue. The NRA endorsed Mayoral Candidate Steven Ross in this race. Dishonesty Regarding Political Party Loyalty and Affiliations Victor Chaltiel repeatedly claims to be a loyal Republican. However, in November 2009, Victor Chaltiel made a $5,000 donation to Democratic Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. This was before anyone else had declared candidacy for this Congressional seat. If Victor Chaltiel wants to support Democratic candidates, that is his right. However, if he chooses this route, he should not dishonestly claim party loyalty and affiliation with the Republican Party. In the eyes of Veterans In Politics International, Victor Chaltiel actions make him a political opportunist, and show a lack of honesty and integrity. Steve Sanson President of Veterans In Politics International (702) 283-8088 Nickolas Starling Chief Executive Officer of Veterans In Politics International (702) 409-1499 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 23, 2011 Boulder City, Nevada Mayoral Race; Linda Strickland Veterans In Politics International denounces the actions of Boulder City Nevada Councilmember Linda Strickland
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA MARCH 23, 2011. Veterans In Politics have chosen not to endorse any particular candidate in the 2011 Boulder City Mayoral race. However, we feel the need to call attention to an issue that we find very troubling. We must denounce the actions of Councilmember Linda Strickland and her apparent disregard for her elected and ethical duties. We rebuke the fact that Councilmember Linda Strickland chose to represent clients as a lawyer against the City of Boulder City Nevada, while she is supposed to be representing all of the citizens of Boulder City Nevada as an elected City Councilmember. Violating Her Charter Duties Linda Strickland is a current, elected Boulder City Councilmember. Linda Strickland is also a licensed attorney in the state of Nevada. As a Boulder City Councilmember, Linda Strickland is charged with the duty to represent all of the residents of Boulder City Nevada. In fact, Article II, Section 4 of the Boulder City Nevada Charter specifically states: “No Councilmember shall represent any particular constituency or district of the City and each Councilmember shall represent the entire City”. Unfortunately, Linda Strickland seems to have completely disregarded her duties of representing all Boulder City Nevada residents when she decided to also act as the attorney in a legal action against the City of Boulder City Nevada. While Veterans In Politics International holds no position on the merits (or lack thereof) of the case at hand, we take strong issue against Linda Strickland acting as an attorney against the City of Boulder City Nevada. In so doing, Linda Strickland ignores her duty to represent all of the citizens of Boulder City Nevada in favor of representing a limited portion of the residents of Boulder City Nevada. Receiving Money from Both Sides It is very offensive that Linda Strickland receives monetary compensation from both sides of this issue. Linda Strickland receives a paycheck from the City of Boulder City Nevada for her service as a City Councilmember. At the same time, Linda Strickland receives legal fees from her clients for representing them against the City of Boulder City Nevada. Regardless of whether receiving money from both sides is legal, it is morally wrong. At the very least, it hints of foul play and garners distrust in our government. Conflict of Interest On its face, the fact that Linda Strickland is on both sides of the issue screams of a conflict of interest. How can Linda Strickland legally and ethically serve two different masters? There have to be some residents of Boulder City Nevada that do not agree with Linda Strickland’s legal actions. It is impossible for Linda Strickland to fulfill her duties to all Boulder City Nevada residents while she legally represents a very small group of them against the City of Boulder City Nevada. It appears that Linda Strickland has a conflict of interest, but chooses to ignore it. Ethical Duties as an Attorney As an attorney, licensed in the state of Nevada, Linda Strickland swore to uphold the Nevada Rules of Professional Conduct. These are the ethical rules that all lawyers are supposed to follow. However, Linda Strickland chose to represent clients against the City of Boulder City Nevada and the residents that Linda Strickland was elected to represent. Nevada Rules of Professional Conduct 1.7 and 1.11 states: "Except as law may otherwise expressly permit, a lawyer currently serving as a public officer or employee...shall not represent a client if the representation involves a concurrent conflict of interest. A concurrent conflict of interest exists if...there is a significant risk that the representation of one or more clients will be materially limited by the lawyer's responsibilities to...a third person...” Since Linda Strickland is charged under the Boulder City Nevada Charter to represent all Boulder City Nevada residents as an elected City Councilmember, it is clear that she cannot ethically represent her legal clients against the City of Boulder City Nevada as well. It is incumbent of Linda Strickland to stop representing her clients in the legal action and refer the action to a different attorney that is not an elected representative of the City of Boulder City Nevada. Fraudulent Veteran Endorsements |

For Immediate Release: Fraudulent Veteran Endorsements Las Vegas, Nevada During the 2010 election cycle it was brought to our attention that there is another veterans group making endorsements of only democratic candidates that Veterans In Politics International has not made. We found out that this entity made endorsements after our endorsements have been made, after much discussion we decided not to give this entity any attention. During this year’s Municipal Election cycle we found out that this entity has continued to initiate endorsements of democratic candidates that have not been endorsed by Veterans In Politics. Veterans In Politics has taken great pride to select and endorse candidates. Our group observes elected officials while they are conducting their jobs; we sit in judge’s court rooms, and county commission, city council, legislative meetings. We investigate candidates as needed, we have a non partial, non bias interview panel that is videotaped and placed on multiple websites, we live stream our interviews on the internet, we open our interviews to the public, in accordance with our by-laws we only consider endorsing candidates that participate in our interview process, we are the only veterans group that endorses candidates in the State of Nevada, we are the only veterans group on a national level that endorses non veterans. The reason for this is that “we” are the Veterans In Politics and the person before us is seeking election of a seat. We look for candidates that support veteran issues, that are knowledgeable, experienced, tactical, approachable, and other attributes. We realize some veterans that appear before us are not equipped for the particular elected seat they are a candidate for. We are non partisan; during last year’s election we had 17 democrats, 19 republicans, 1 Independent American and 1 Libertarian candidate in the general election in the state of Nevada. We also made endorsements of several Congressional and US Senate candidates across the country. After our investigation of this entity we discovered that this entity is only a one man veteran blogger, that doesn’t send out questionnaires, doesn’t call up all candidates that are running for the same seat, doesn’t interview candidates, and half the time has never meet the candidate that he has endorsed. We believe in the constitution anybody has a right to make endorsements. However, this individual is making fraudulent endorsements by giving a false impression to the voting public that “veterans’ are endorsing a particular candidate. If this individual is so strong on endorsing candidates then he should use his birth name. If you see the words “veterans” or “endorsed by veterans” and do not see the words Veterans In Politics then realize that the endorsement is a phony and the candidate that uses this phony endorsement has to question their ethical and moral values. This is a clear sign of desperation. We encourage you to go to the Veterans In Politics websites, face book sites, meet up sites, check us out with the Internal Revenue Services, the Nevada Secretary of State, or just goggle our name and you will realize that we are a legitimate organization that is only looking out for the best interest of all of our citizens despite their religion, creed, or political party affiliation. We are Veterans In Politics International for more information or to see our endorsed candidates go to www.veteransinpolitics.com. |
